Introduction

The engineering team are working on some bigger features, and we will bring you updates on these when they are released. In the meantime we’ve got a couple of new UI features to highlight:

  • Dark mode
  • Seed searches

In addition, we’ve got some new knowledge base articles to let you know about.

Dark mode

There are some never ending debates in IT and programming, tabs vs spaces, Vim vs Emacs, where to put your curly braces, AI vs If statements, all very important… and dark mode vs light mode is one of those debates. Personally I like both, it depends on the time of day and lighting. As the nights draw in, and a certain day gets closer, one upside is that I’ll get to use the new dark mode setting in Hexiosec ASM.

Dark mode can have various benefits for your user experience:

  • Using a bright screen in a dimly lit room can be an uncomfortable experience, especially later at night
  • It has been shown (by Google) that using dark mode can reduce energy usage on OLED screens
  • It’s often seen to look better, more pleasing on the eye.

With Hexiosec ASM we’ve always worked hard to produce an application, which not only looks good but presents UI elements in an accessible way, for example, for our user guides we make sure to provide alternate text descriptions on all images. Adding dark mode was a logical step for us.

The new dark mode in Hexiosec ASM is already available and defaults to your system settings, if like me your device switches automatically to dark mode in the evening, you may have already experienced it. If you prefer to switch manually or only use light or dark mode you can also choose this.

The settings are available top right, alongside user settings.

Our user guides already have dark mode settings available for you, simply make the selection in the top left.

If you have any other feedback on accessibility features you would like us to add to Hexiosec ASM, please get in touch.

Seed searches

We have some great search capability in Hexiosec and this month we’ve added another. If you have multiple scans to manage, sometimes it can be hard to remember which seed domain or IP has been used in which scan, particularly if you have many scans with many seeds.

On the main scans browser page you could already search for scans by their name, which auto expands any groups with a matching name, you can now choose to also include scan seeds in this search.

In the example below the search for ‘ferrari.com’ has found the Ferrari scan containing that seed (I’m sticking to dark mode for these screenshots so the blog itself isn’t jarring!).

This make it much easier to find the scans you are after, especially if you use scan names which may not indicate the seeds in use. The seed search will also match on partial seeds, so you can use it to find multiple top level domains with the same name, e.g. ’example.’ would find ’example.com’ and ’example.co.uk’

New knowledge base articles

To ensure Hexiosec users always have the information they need to understand how the app works and how to interpret the results, we maintain an extensive set of user guides in our knowledge base.

We are frequently adding new articles, either as we add new features or we identify a need for a new user guide. This month, I’d like to highlight three FAQ (frequently asked questions) pages we’ve added recently, all relating to understanding ASM results:

Coming soon

  • Management of scan allowances with credits
  • Updated IP address data handling and protocol risks
